Hey crew... it's that time of year again!

SPECIAL GAME RULES
------------------------------------------------
First things first... ** EVERYONE ATTENDING THIS GAME MUST BRING THEIR OWN TUBE OF WASHABLE FAKE BLOOD. **

I'll say that again, just in case you didn't hear me the first time. EVERYONE ATTENDING THIS GAME MUST BRING THEIR OWN TUBE OF WASHABLE FAKE BLOOD!!! Check out Value Village, dollar stores, costume shops... they'll probably have water-based fake blood that won't stain your clothing. I've used it before on denim jeans, polyester and cotton, and I can guarantee it'll be safe to use on any of those. A tube will probably cost about $2-$3.

The game works like this: as usual, we start with our rock-paper-scissors round to determine who will be IT. If you're chosen as IT, you must "zombify" yourself by smearing fake blood all over your face, clothes, etc. In order to tag another player, as always, you must physically tag them... and once tagged, that person will also smear their own fake blood on themselves so that they'll be marked as a zombie too. When tagged, feel free to tear your clothes to shreds, rip your jeans, etc., if you wanna go for a more intense zombie look.

Please DO NOT smear blood on or tear or otherwise ruin other people's clothing -- just your own. Also, if you wanna get *really* bloody, go ahead and bring as many tubes of fake blood as you like. Finally, although it isn't 100% mandatory, we'd ask that you please wear AT LEAST one item of clothing that the red blood will show up against -- wearing all black probably isn't a great idea.

We'll be playing at UVic -- the boundary is the ring road. Meet us by the fountain outside McPherson Library at 3pm SHARP!

We can't lie to you guys! Though according to "conventional" history books the jewels were lost forever, there is a legend that has persisted to the present day that the jewels were found and passed down through the generations, un...til smuggled out to a Royalist stronghold somewhere in the Colonies... and where better than the Britishest non-British city in the world? Here at ManHunt HQ, we've have done some serious research and we think we've narrowed down the location of these historic treasures...

Yep, water-gun ManHunt was more fun than a barrel of sopping wet monkeys, and we should do another one real soon... but, walking back from the bar tonight after sundown, it occured to me that an evening game probably isn't a smart idea. Cold night air + cold water + wet clothing = pneumonia, or at least general unpleasantness. So let's go back to regular old tag-style ManHunt for this one; to paraphrase the late Johnny Cash, "don't take your waterguns to town."

Good heavens! I just had the fun of searching 'water fight' in google images. I hope those young ladies brought a change of clothes. Aaaaaanyway...

Don't let the grey skies and substandard temperatures fool you: it *is* actually summer (technically speaking). By that logic it's time for a water fight!!

The rules are the same as regular Manhunt but to catch someone you need to shoot them with water (we'll use the "size of a quarter" rule). You must bring your own water gun, but there are taps at the park for refills. Extra guns will NOT be available so please don't come empty handed.

What gun you bring is up to you: Do you go big, powerful, and slow, or small, fast, and piddly? Do you go for water balloons instead? Our only request is that you don't bring anything that looks like a real gun (we have enough trouble with the police as it is... sneaking around with a Glock replica will bring nothing but tears).

Meet by the parking lot at the north side of Topaz Park at 4:00pm on 24 July. You may want to bring extra clothes for going out afterwards.

So it turns out that May 4th is International Star Wars Day, and there will therefore be much celebration and revelry in geekdoms across the globe! And, since we'll have just elected a government, we really feel it's only right to play at the Legislative buildings.

Feel free to dress as a Jedi knight, a stormtrooper, or a droi--I mean politician--if you wish, but this is an evening game, there's a lot of running, and it may well ...be raining, so... maybe don't? ;-)

Yup, that's Jean-Claude Van Damme in a bunny suit. You're welcome. I bet you were all waiting for my characteristic Jesus joke picture... well guess again! (Though I admit it would have been a fitting time to run a Zombie game).

Anyhoo, it's time to play again and I hope you can all make it. This is a really special game for me because my sister and nephew are coming all the way from Ontario to visit. Let's do it up right!

For anyone who hasn't played Ninja-Hunt before, please know that it is truly the Cadillac of ManHunts. The rules are all the same, but everyone is required to come dressed in black, head to toe. It's even more fear-fueled, paranoia-inducing, and just plain terrifying than normal. In short, it's Fun. As. Heck.

The Hundredth Hunt is upon us! We hope you'll all come out to play this Sunday from 3-5pm (don't forget: the clocks change this Saturday). If you have a Manhunt T-Shirt (or anything bright yellow), now's the time to wear it so we can get a great group photo.

** PLEASE NOTE** Our meeting spot has been moved slightly to be in front of the Starbucks at Government + Fisgard (by the big globe) in order to accommodate the French Festival happening in Centennial Square that afternoon. Please spread the word to anyone you know.

We ask that first-time players aim to be there at 2:45 to get a start on the registration process. Registration will go from 2:45-3:00 and we want to get the game started promptly after that, so don't be late! If you plan to join us at 4:00pm for the second game, please have your waiver or permission form completed before you arrive.

After the game we'll be heading to Sopranos Bar and Grill (19+) for dinner (cheap cheap!) and then a huge after-party starting at 7:00. The event is free but our games and quiz will have a small fee to help us raise money to cover our costs and help fund some pretty exciting projects we have in the works (bring your toonies!). We have over $1000 in wonderful prizes to give away and lots of fun planned. This event is open to everyone (except minors... sorry!)... even if you can't attend the game... or even if you've never played with us before... we'd still love you to come to our party! What a long, strange hunt it's been. We've long since lost track of the number of tags made, miles collectively run, ankles twisted, innocent civilians trampled, fences scaled, and vehicles narrowly dodged. BUT our records confirm that this is indeed Victoria's 100th game of ManHunt, and naturally, it seems like a good excuse to celebrate.

We'll spend the afternoon running amok downtown, and then move on to Sopranos Bar & Grill (730 Caledonia Ave) for food, drinks and fun (19+ only, sorry minors!) If you can't make the game, you're still invited to the party, and vice versa. Here's our itinerary for the day:

Scary as it might be, it's true; we're only 5 games away from the big 100! That's 95 days & nights of running, hiding, hunting, drinking and bonding. Group hug!

We're going back to an old favourite for this round: Crystal Pool. Check out area MHV 11 on the following MAP LINK.

Meet us at the basketball court (Quadra/Pembroke) @ 7pm SHARP! It is very, very important that you show up on time for the game, as we have to explain the rules and ALL PLAYERS have to sign-in.

All ManHunt participants MUST complete a liability waiver before playing the game. This new process involves two stages...

A. LIABILITY WAIVER and/or PERMISSION FORM
You'll need to print this form at home, fill it out and submit it to us before the game. You'll only need to do this ONCE, as it will go into our permanent file. There are two versions -- one for adults, and one for minors (to be signed by a parent or legal guardian). Here are the files -- you should be able to print directly from these links, but if you have any problems, let us know and we'd be happy to help out.

B. SIGN-IN SHEET
We'll provide this document, which must be filled out by every player at each and every game. It's basically a bare-bones version of the waiver/permission form that'll go in your permanent file. Ok folks... we've successfully infiltrated both the Bay Centre and Hillside Mall -- time to step things up. This promises to be the mother of all mall-hunts, and a damn fine way to end the 2010 MHV season.

Quite unlike the regular game, this indoor variant has its own special rules (no running, no armbands, NO MERCY!), but is every bit as fun as its outdoor counterpart. Creep through the crowds of Boxing Week bargain hunters whi...le playing an intense, covert game of hide n' seek... right under the noses of store clerks and mall security!

Meet OUTSIDE the east entrance off Blanshard (near ToysR'Us & the food court) at 3:30pm. We'll play as many games as we can before the mall closes at 5:30pm, and then head out for food n' drinks somewhere.

From this point forward, ManHunt participants must sign a liability waiver at the beginning of EVERY game. Players UNDER 19 will also need to bring a completed permission form signed by a parent or legal guardian. Copies of both documents can be found at the links below...

Please be patient with us over the next few games as we work out the kinks -- it'll take a while for us to get into the rhythm of this new process. It should be said that we will probably implement a registration CUT-OFF time, so latecomers might be turned away or forced to wait until the 2nd game to sign up & play... (fair warning...)

Thanks to everyone that gave advice & feedback on the new waiver. We hope that this new procedure won't detract from the fun, free-spirited nature of our events. Just think of it as the same old ManHunt, but with the added annoyance of some minor paperwork that'll give your hosts some SERIOUS peace of mind.

Planning a game of ManHunt on the 30th anniversary of John Lennon's murder... I must admit, the temptation to Photoshop an armband onto Mark David Chapman was overwhelming. But then it dawned on me... wait a sec, I actually really *LOVE* John Lennon. And I think he would've liked the idea of a bunch of adults running around the city playing tag in the dark. So... consider this something of a tribute.

Anyway... for this extra special game, let's try out a brand new area: Beacon Hill circle/summit. Why have we never played here before? Beats me -- we avoided it in the past, assuming it just wouldn't work. But at night... hell, it just might be fan-friggin-tastic. And maybe even a bit dangerous. :)

Meet near the flagpole at the summit at 7pm SHARP. Latecomers: you suck! And besides that, you might miss hearing us explain the rules. So don't be late. Game 1 is at 7:15pm, game 2 at 8pm. Post-game drinks at the Bent Mast (probably?)...

Spread the word, bring your friends. Wear decent shoes -- gloves and dark clothing are smart too. Game is on, RAIN or SHINE.

Halloween! It's the most wonderful time of the year! To celebrate we're holding two special themed games of Manhunt. This one is my personal favourite... Ninja Manhunt!! Players are expected to wear head-to-toe black including an extra-fancy Ninja Mask . Please also see the post below for our other Halloween game: Zombie Manhunt on 23rd Oct at 3:00 (bring fake blood!).

Ninja Manhunt will be played at Kinsmen Gorge Park. Please meet us in the parking lot at 7:00pm on Wednesday, 27 October.

The Map

Game two will start at 8:00.

Please keep in mind that this is a slightly hazardous place to play at night because of the forested sections and uneven ground (particularly when everyone is in black). You may want to bring a small flashlight for safety and good shoes are highly recommended. It will also be cold so I'd suggest gloves and something warm to wear after the game.

This is one of the most popular and (dare I say) exhilarating games of the Manhunt calendar and we hope to have a large turn out. Please spread the word!

Remember: dress entirely in black, bring an old t-shirt for a mask, and consider warm clothes and a flashlight.

Hey crew... it's that time of year again. Last October's zombie game was an absolute riot, so let's bust out the fake blood and tattered shirts and give it another go! Sunday, 24 October, 3:00pm.

SPECIAL GAME RULES
--------------------------
First things first... ***EVERYONE ATTENDING THIS GAME MUST BRING THEIR OWN TUBE OF WASHABLE FAKE BLOOD***

I'll say that again, just in case you didn't hear me the first time. EVERYONE ATTENDING THIS GAME MUST BRING THEIR OWN TUBE OF WASHABLE FAKE BLOOD!!! Check out Value Village, dollar stores, costume shops... they'll probably have water-based fake blood that won't stain your clothing. I've used it before on denim jeans, polyester and cotton, and I can guarantee it'll be safe to use on any of those. A tube will probably cost about $2-$3.

The game will work like this: as usual, we start with our rock-paper-scissors round to determine who will be IT. If you're chosen as IT, you must "zombify" yourself by smearing fake blood all over your face, clothes, etc. In order to tag another player, as always, you must physically tag them... and once tagged, that person will also smear their own fake blood on themselves so that they'll be marked as a zombie too. When tagged, feel free to tear your clothes to shreds, rip your jeans, etc., if you wanna go for a more intense zombie look.

Please DO NOT smear blood on or tear or otherwise ruin other people's clothing -- just your own. Also, if you wanna get *really* bloody, go ahead and bring as many tubes of fake blood as you like. Finally, although it isn't 100% mandatory, we'd ask that you please wear AT LEAST one item of clothing that the red blood will show up against -- wearing all black probably isn't a great idea.

We'll be meeting by the fountain in Centennial Square (off the NE corner of Government & Pandora -- see map link below). Be there at 3pm sharp to hear the rules and grab your armbands. Game 1 will start at 3:15pm, game 2 at 4pm. Drinks afterwards at any nearby pub that'll serve the undead.

PS - Zombie ManHunt is SO much damn fun that we'd love to do another game next spring or summer. Plan ahead and stockpile a few extra tubes of fake blood over the winter -- they can be hard to come by after Hallowe'en, so get 'em now while they're cheap and in abundance.

Remember '77? Of course not -- you were born a decade (or more) later. But those of us that were there remember it as an exciting time; Trudeau & Carter were in office... Apple Computers were in their infancy... Toronto & Seattle teams debuted in major league baseball... "Roots" was on TV... Zeppelin & the Sex Pistols were on the radio... "Star Wars" & "Rocky" were at the cinema... and Elvis Presley met his untimely demise after one too many valium/demerol/morphine cocktails.

Oh... and *I* was born. Awesome-sauce!

In honour of this momentous year, ManHunt Victoria will be hosting its 77th game at the Greater Victoria Public Library on Wed August 4th. Meet us in the library courtyard (off Broughton or Blanshard) at 7pm sharp. As usual, we ask that you PLEASE show up on time so that we can explain the rules to any newcomers. Howdy folks! Our next game is in honour of one of our committed and gorgeous ManHunters,who has for some time been requesting that we play Topaz Park. This is our first game at this new and exciting (and hopefully hospitilization-free) location and it is dedicated to Michelle (aka "The Skirt")...

We will be meeting by the bleachers at the soccer pitch at 4pm SHARP. Newcomers (everybody, really) please try to be on time so that we can explain the rules and take questions, etc... Make sure you wear a pair of decent running shoes, and clothes than you can afford to get a bit grubby (players slip and fall on a regular basis). World Cup Manhunt!

So, as I'm sure you're all aware, we are in the middle of the World Cup!

To that end, if you want to show up dressed to support your team (colours, jerseys, etc. fabulous, but no vuvuzelas), we'd love to see it! If you're not a football fanatic or you prefer stealth to style, then just come and run around with the rest of us!

It's International Nurses' Day! Here at ManHunt, we always emphasize safety first, but.... accidents can and DO happen. So, if you end up in the hospital after tonight's game, please remember to be extra-nice to the lovely folks patching you up and tending to your wounds. After all... "we'd all be worse without a nurse."

We're trying another new area this time: meet at the north end of the Selkirk trestle bridge at 7pm sharp. Check out this MAP LINK to see the proposed boundaries.

Make sure you're on time so that we can review the rules for the newcomers and maybe do a walkaround of the area. Game 1 kicks off around 7:15pm, game 2 at 8pm.

All right folks, we've decided to try a new spot. Please meet at Saxe Point (the end of Fraser St. in Esquimalt) at 4:00pm on Sunday, 2 May. We'll do a walk-around of the boundaries so please try to be on time. This area is partially wooded so the usual recommendations on footwear and attire apply.

If anyone is driving and can offer rides please post to the Facebook event wall with where you're coming to. It's a tough place to get to on the bus so any seats would help. Post-game drinks to be decided then (but they'll happen, I assure you).

Desperately in need of a good title & picture for this event, we turned to our record keepers and... lo and behold... it just so happens that this will be the 66th official game of ManHunt here in our fair city. Hey kids, ManHunt Victoria t-shirts are HERE!!! Hot diggity dawg! Well, *almost* here... but still... yay!

Next game's gonna be in North Park, around Crystal Pool & Central Park. Rain or shine, of course. Meet at the basketball court (northeast corner of Quadra/Pembroke) at 7pm. New folks, PLEASE try not to be late so we can run through the rules before we start. Game 1 kicks off at 7:15pm, game 2 at 8pm. Drinks after? Well, duh.

Also... t-shirts will be ready for pickup before/after the game at my apartment (on Fisgard, off Quadra... just a short walk from Crystal Pool). Aim to swing by around 6:30pm if you're coming BEFORE the game. I'll send a message to all confirmed Facebook attendees next week with my address and contact info, as well as the final price for the shirts.

You know how it works. Meet in front of the Cathedral on Quadra Street (across from the YMCA downtown) at 4:00pm on Sunday, 28 March. Please try to be on time, especially if it's your first game and you need to hear the rules.

For those who played on St. Pat's Day: A lot of our armbands went missing. If anyone brought one home by mistake, please bring it back!

Also, we're trying to raise some cash to throw Justin out of an airplane for his birthday. This is a true public service... err.... Anyway, if you are so inclined, we'll collect spare change at this game to help him on his way.

This event is rain or shine. Sissies need not apply.

Seriously, how could we NOT have a game on St. Patty's Day?

Meet us near the entrance to Bastion Square, outside Irish Times Pub (off Government & View) at 7pm sharp. Game 1 will start at 7:15pm, game 2 at 8pm. Post-game drinks will DEFINITELY be on the agenda.

Newcomers: we'll run through the rules before the game, so please try not to be late.

By all means, we encourage everyone to get festive and wear a bit of green at the game -- it might even help if your strategy is to try and blend in with the crowds out on the streets. To that end, having a few pints before the game might also be a brilliant tactical move...

... just kidding. Drinking before the game: probably not a good idea.

Manhunt now has four (known) hospitalizations, so we figured we'd throw caution to the wind and play at our most treacherous location. This course is covered in thick thorn bushes, steep drop-offs, loose rock, and unseen hazards, buy hey, you're not a sissy, are ya?

We'd really like to make Michelle and her Red Right Ankle our last casualty (get well soon, kiddo). In that light PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE come well prepared for this game. We *highly* recommend clothing that you can get muddy and that offers protection from thorns. Good shoes are a MUST, and a decent pair of gloves would be a good idea too. That means those new heels you were dying to try out might not be kosher this time around. Capiche?

Because the area is dangerous enough when it's dry, the game will be relocated if it's raining. The backup location will be to meet in front of the cathedral on Quadra St. at Courtenay. Same time.

*** We will post here and email all the 'confirmed' and 'maybe' people the morning of the game if it's raining. If you haven't heard from us head to McCauley. IF YOU'RE UNSURE CHECK HERE.

For all our new members who joined us for the Ninja game, this event does not require you to wear black or to have a mask.

Oh, hell yeah. Ninja ManHunt -- the best kinda ManHunt there is!

This works just like the regular game, except with one awesome variation... ALL PLAYERS IN ATTENDANCE MUST DRESS HEAD TO TOE IN BLACK (including mask -- see the link below for instructions on how to make one from a black t-shirt).

Meet us outside the central washrooms in Beacon Hill Park (near the intersection of Bridge Way and Chestnut Row). Be there at 7pm sharp to grab your armbands and hear the rules. The boundaries will be decided based on the number of players, and maps will be provided. Game 1 kicks off at 7:15pm, game 2 at 8pm.

We'd love it if someone could bring a camera to snap some photos at the game. Also, in an effort to boost numbers, we've come up with a little homework assignment for you -- if possible, please bring at least ONE person who's NEVER played ManHunt before. It shouldn't be a tough sell -- running around in the dark, chasing people, pretending to be ninjas... what's NOT to like?

Time for another round in Fernwood. Meet on the front steps of Vic High (1260 Grant St, just off Camosun St) at 7pm sharp. Game 1 at 7:15pm, game 2 at 8pm. Drinks after? Sure, why the hell not.

Newcomers, please try to be punctual so that you can hear the rules before the game begins.

Also -- we're still collecting $10 deposits for t-shirts, which will hopefully be printed in the next month or so. Bring some cash if you want to be included in the order.

Hey folks!

Thanks to everyone who chipped in for the medical kit at the last game. We're going to bring the donation bag again this time, so if anyone has a buck or two to contribute, it would be greatly appreciated. We're hoping to be able to get a well-stocked emergency kit from MEC that's water-proof, as well as have some money on hand to send people in a cab to the hospital in case of trouble. Donations are voluntary, but very very appreciated.

For this game please meet by the basketball court outside of Crystal Pool (Quadra + Pembroke) at 7:00pm on Wednesday. Spread the word, bring your friends, and don't forget to wear some good running shoes.

If your resolution for 2010 was to "get in shape," you couldn't ask for a better way to get started. And if your other resolution was to "chase more people around the streets of Victoria," you can kill two birds with one stone. Brilliant!

Well kiddies, it's the last chance to get out for a run-around in the unnamed decade. Welcome in the 2010s (twenty-tens.. right?) with a game at the original Manhunt location from way back in the olden days of 2008.

Meet in the small park (with the statue of Michael Williams) at Johnson and Wharf. Wednesday, 30 December 7:00 pm, sharp. Don't be late!

Sorry for the short notice on the last few games, I assure you it's not because Benjamin and I have been drunk for days. I promise.
